I am a Hmong-American who grew up in the Midwest. The environment and people I am surrounded by have positioned me to become a determined, detail-oriented, and exuberant individual. My name is Adam Thao, and I define myself as an individual who values creativity and out-of-the-box thinking to create meaningful experiences.

I got into Product Design because I loved creating and trying to draw everything I could think of at a young age. From mutant dinosaurs to fantastical collages of monster designs, I wanted to create everything in the coolest and craziest ways possible. With five years of experience, studying Product Design has taught me that even the craziest ideas can result in some of the most impactful and innovative products. Throughout my studies in Product Design, I have also learned that the opposite is also true. Some of the simplest designs and ideas can result in phenomenal products.

I strongly believe that concept ideation represents a pivotal stage in the design process. This step in the design process not only serves as a means to generate a large number of ideas, but also stands as an exciting and fun part of the creative process. The inclusion of fun in the design process is important because it can result in fresh and innovative ideas. My approach to adding fun to the design process revolves around coming up with more imaginative concepts. These concepts are then refined through iterative feedback from peers and others, leading to a better final product.

Apart from my design life, I enjoy staying socially and physically active. I enjoy hanging out with family and friends in my spare time. When I am not with friends and family, I spend time at the gym, immersed in a video game, 3D modeling, or creating something, whether it’s an illustration or visual media like TikToks.

PERSONAL INTERESTS BESIDES DESIGN 😱

  • I love weightlifting and have been doing it for three years! My favorite lifts are the staples such as bench press, barbell squats, and dead lifts. I especially love a good leg day and NEVER skip leg day. I am very passionate about weightlifting and am always striving to learn more about this topic. Another fitness activity that I like to do is competitive swimming, which I have been doing for over nine years!

  • I love being competitive in intense multiplayer video games. I especially love Overwatch (my favorite game of all time), Fortnite, and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. I also enjoy being immersed in single player adventure games like The Legend of Zelda and Skyrim. I find gaming as a way to relax (unless it’s a super competitive game where you’re losing like six games in a row…) and a way to spend time with others.

  • I love producing visual media, mainly in the form of short form content. I have a TikTok and YouTube channel where I passionately create gaming content focused on titles like Pokemon TCG Pocket, Super Smash Bros. and more!

    I’ve had multiple videos on TikTok hit over 4 million views each! I have also gained over 32,000 followers organically with a total of 2.4 million likes, all in a span of a year.

    For YouTube, I’ve amassed over 2,000 subscribers and over 1 million views total. I’m continually producing content on my free time, and strive to enhance the quality and entertainment of my videos.

  • I’m a huge memer and probably more chronically online than I should be... I love watching funny videos and memes on platforms like TikTok, X, and Instagram. I especially love cat and Spongebob memes.

  • I like food, especially Lao and Thai food. I don’t have a favorite dish, but I am open to almost any kind of food. Anything that includes chicken, I would probably eat. Some of my favorite places to eat are Gai Noi and Coconut Thai.
